Chiropractic Care
Chiropractic care, as delivered in our office, seeks to discover the cause of your problem and not simply treat the symptoms it is causing. Our approach works to minimize or eliminate your need for medications or surgery. At Massey Chiropractic, we have various techniques, modalities and rehabilitation options to use in jump-starting your healing and ensuring that you continue to progress along the way to reaching your goals.
The benefits of chiropractic care can be a simple as pain relief or as far reaching as improved movement, flexibility, balance, and coordination. Patients have experienced success with a number of conditions, including:
- Low back pain
- Neck pain
- Headaches
- Sciatica
- Joint injuries
- Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
- Shoulder pain and dysfunction
- Plantar fasciitis
Ensuring Your Needs Are Met
Your care is tailored to your specific condition and response to treatment. Initially, you’ll typically be treated and monitored for a two week period. During that time, Dr. Massey will evaluate how you’re recovering and “fine tune” your treatment as necessary to help you improve as quickly as possible During that time, you will likely be seen somewhat regularly. Those in severe pain will more likely be seen more often.
After that trial period, Dr. Massey will review your progress and determine if any changes in his approach, your home management program, or your care plan are necessary. Treatment goals will be reviewed and further care will be mapped out at that time. Your condition will be re-evaluated at regular intervals to determine not only your symptom improvement but your functional status with everyday activities. Over time, and with expected progress and goals met, your care will become less frequent and the emphasis will shift to rehabilitation methods to stabilize the affected areas and promote a decreased reliance on treatment. (As your pain and function improve, your need to see us will decrease)
Varied Techniques and Objective Measurements
Dr. Massey utilizes a range of chiropractic techniques, from the more traditional methods to low-impact and instrument-based adjusting. As an objective evaluation tool, we often test a patient’s range of motion and comparative muscle strength in the affected areas via a computerized system called the “Tracker.” These measurements are especially useful for workers’ compensation cases and auto injuries, where detailed documentation is essential.
Posture Training
In today’s world, too many of us are spending hours staring down at our phones and tablets. Parents are particularly concerned about their teenagers slumping over their devices. Subjecting your body to repeated and prolonged forward postures causes your shoulders to roll forward and your head to be held at an angle ahead of the body. Over time, this positioning leads to excess pressure and strain of the structures of the neck, shoulders, and upper back. Posture training employs simple exercises, positions, and ergonomic adjustments to slow or reverse the effects of these types of positions by re-training muscular balance while restoring muscle and position memory. Workers in many professions, such as those who drive often, sit at a computer, work on an assembly line or sit at a tabletop, can also benefit from posture training.
Kinesio Taping®
Dr. Massey began working with Kinesio Tape® years ago when he learned of it during an experience he first had while volunteering with the AVP pro beach volleyball tour. Seeing the incredible results that the athletes achieved made him want to use it to benefit his patients. Over time, kinesio taping has gained notoriety in major events such as the Olympics as well for everyday patient complaints. Kinesio taping works for many issues such as low back pain, shoulder and rib pain, sprained ankles, strained muscles and so much more.
